Bairi Piya is about the social evils and farmer suicides which are still prevalent in Vidharba, Maharashtra. Amoli is forced by Thakur into marriage in lieu of her family’s debts. She resists Thakur’s obsession with the help of Pundir family of Meerut, and her real mother Sunanda, but is herself psyched out by the mystery and deception of look-alike or double role or impersonator, Ranvir. Does Amoli survive the fear, tension, nightmares of Thakur’s obsession, does she break down, does she manage, as she resolves, to unravel the mystery without losing her own mind?
